A few months back I noticed my dog’s skin getting dry but wasn’t sure of why. I left it for a few weeks but then I noticed the scratching worse and worse.
I looked online and could only find recommendations of oatmeal shampoo for dogs as a possible solution.
The vets recommended that I used this too, so I decided to go and research that which product would best do the job and in this post I’ll be sharing exactly what I found.
How this list was made
I found that oatmeal shampoo for dogs would be the right choice for dogs with inflamed skin. Whilst this was not the exact case for my dog, I found that it can still be great into maintaining healthy a good healthy skin and coat for dogs.
After testing around 15 products on the market, I was able to narrow this down to 5 great products that I thought performed best.
This could be also great for if you own a puppy as you will need to be very careful with what you use on their skin, especially in the earlier stages.
How to choose the best dog shampoo
Selecting the best dog shampoo is not as easy when your dog has skin irritations. Because of that, I have chosen to review only oatmeal shampoos here in this post.
As they are a lot more subtle on sensitive skin and provide and great restore for your dog’s skin to become healthy once again.
This list contains 5 of the best oatmeal shampoo for dogs with itchy skin that I found to perform well after testing multiple different products.
I quote “I am no expert” but I will give my honest review of each. Just make sure that your pups over 6 weeks before decided to give him/her a bath.
Side effects of the wrong shampoos
You need to be really careful about what products you use on your dog’s skin, as it could result in them experiencing itching and burning.
A majority of the time I write posts on this blog around golden retrievers but because I have a Golden myself. Let’s get into the top 5 already!
5 best oatmeal shampoo for dogs (tested)
Making sure that you have the right oatmeal shampoo for your dog can be a total headache. Lucky for you I have completed a top 5 list after testing multiple different products so that you can easily find which one is right for you.
I’ve taken the time to explain the pros and cons to each of these products and left links to each of them of where you can purchase them on Amazon (just click the big red button).
So without further ado here are my top 5 oatmeal dog shampoo.
This shampoo is specifically designed to remove any bad stink in your puppy’s hair and skin. Whilst doing that, it is also a great shampoo for leaving them smooth and shiny.
After using this on my dog, her coat was left nice and silky smooth. And this also comes with a lovely conditioner alongside too.
I would recommend buying the both personally but if you’re totally just looking to test one first then the shampoo will be ok for that too.
This product comes in at the cheapest on the list and is worth every cent.
At the time when I bought this shampoo, I found that my dog had fleas. This shampoo was brilliant for that as not only did it have an amazing scent but it also removed fleas too.
I tested it out over a month or so and it literally blew me away. It was made up of lots of natural oils which ticked a lot of boxes for me right from the start.
A few of those were almond oils and aloe vera which is always nice to include. Because of the fleas, my pup would tend to scratch a lot throughout the day.
Be careful though, as this product has a very, very, very strong scent that you may find overwhelming at first.
But really, I’m sure you would rather that than the stench of your pup after a week of no bath. Overall a big thumbs up from me on this product.
This shampoo is meant to help soothe and clear up skin conditions so it might make your dog’s skin feel better if it’s irritated.
As my dog had no signs of skin irritation when I tested this. So I decided to ask a friend to test on her dog that did.
She has a 3-year-old American bulldog who at the time was experiencing irritated skin. my friend said that she had tested a whopping 6 shampoos prior to using this and nothing worked.
This shampoo seemed to do the trick. And I found it in one of the most unusual places on Amazon. It appears that there’s now an editorial recommendation section on dog shampoos.
Don’t ask me how I found it, haha, but it was there when I searched. And that’s where I saw this shampoo being recommended as the experts choice to solve such conditions.
Heres a video review I found from another customer showing you how to apply it.
Now the first thing that struck me about this product was the fact that it claims to do everything.
After reading that I decided to put it to the test and see if it’s really the big deal it makes itself to be fair.
Just to give you an idea of what I’m talking about. This product shampoos & conditions. As well as caters to dogs and puppies.
No matter what dog you have and how old they are then this should be the product for you. Here’s what I found…
Firstly it was tear-free which is great for using on your pups face when washing.
However, even though it says “tear free” it does not mean you should be careless around your dog’s eyes whilst using it. I suggest that you still try to avoid getting it in your dog’s eyes at all.
This shampoo has a nice lovely smell to it. So good, that whenever I change it, somehow I always end up coming back to it. Time and time again! It just gets the job done with no problems.
The only problem I had with this, was the fact that the bottle is a little on the small side at only 8oz which doesn’t last too long.
Of course, resulting in me having to buy more and more. So now I just buy 2 at a time whenever possible.
This was the only shampoo on the list that I never got to test properly. The reason for that is because I am still currently using it, ha.
So far it has been great and I have no real negatives on the product.
Firstly, this shampoo comes in a nice 17oz sized bottle. Which is almost double to the previous product mentioned above, whilst still in at a similar price.
Although I haven’t yet finished testing this, I can say that it for sure has a great scent to it and has aloe vera included.
As you may be able to tell from reading this, I literally love anything with aloe vera in it.
The shampoo has a very light scent, lathers great, and doesn’t leave a residue. As I said, I have not yet finished using this but so far, so good.
The only downside I can drag up about this product is that it doesn’t seem to be as effective. My dog still seemed to scratch a lot after using this.
It really doesn’t matter on what oatmeal shampoo for dogs you select from this list. As you can see from my top 5 Oatmeal shampoo for dogs it all depends on what your dog’s condition is as to what shampoo will be best for you to buy.
