Who is a corgi mix for?
The temperament of this dog is known to be a little mischievous and naughty. So if you are an older person and want a lot of time to relax. Then this is not the pup for you. If on the other hand you are very outgoing and love to run around then this may be a great choice for you.
This dog, however, does not need a whole heap of exercise per day as one walk per day should be enough. You will usually find this to be very common amongst smaller breed of dogs.
Lets now talk about some of the personality traits of this beautiful mix breed.
How friendly is the Corgi Husky mix?
This breed of dog has been recorded to be good with people and very friendly towards others providing they have had the right training. That means that if you are taking them for a walk in the park, you should be ok as long as they are trained to behave.
As you can start raining your dog from as young as 8 weeks old. I recommend you get hold of some training from as early as possible. A great course to get started with is brain training for dogs course. It’s a course that I used to train my dog when she was tearing up everything in sight back when I got her. You can also check the review that I wrote of the course too.
It’s safe to say that this is a very friendly breed. And with the right training, they can be a good dog amongst other dogs too. There’s no real way of predicting how your specific dog will be as it will totally depend on their parents.
This is especially true with 1sr generation dogs as there has not been enough record of data collected to test or see what may be common in the breed. Instead, we can take a look at their parents and see what they are like to get an idea.
What temperament does a husky and welsh corgi have?
A Siberian husky is known as a breed to be people pleasing. This breed dates back to around 3000 years ago of where they helped people through the Siberian winters. Their a little cheeky from time to time but nothing that is too dangerous or incapable of being handled.
They are fast learners with the ability to tackle complex tasks. But trying to get them to apply their knowledge can be a job within itself. That kind of sums it up for the husky so let us talk about the Welsh corgi and what you can expect from them.
According to Wikipedia, this breed is very bold, Outgoing, Playful & Protective. This breed was originally bred to herd sheep, ducks & geese on farms. They reside in Wales and data back to a shocking 1107 AD. So way-way back in dog years or our years too.
By taking a close look at the parent breeds, you are then able to get a better understanding of the corgi husky mix. Having a dog is great, but maintaining a dog is another is where the hard work truly begins.
How to maintain a corgi husky mix?
Because of the general nice nature to these dogs, you will not need to worry too much for their behavior. However, you can instead focus on other aspects such as grooming and walking.
And that’s exactly what we are going to get into. So you can expect to groom these dogs on a moderate scale. Meaning that if you groom them correctly with the right equipment, then you can expect to do that just one time per week.
They have a very thick coat that can be medium to long, so it’s important to brush it down to prevent any matted hair. I also have written a really detailed post all about the corgi husky mix that you may find useful too.
Is this an officially recognized dog breed?
At the current time of writing this post, the answer to this question is NO. I have heard a name such as Horgi. But this has not been registered with AKC to my knowledge and until then it is not official.
I usually find that the market will determine the name of this dog and then as the breed becomes more commonly known, there will be a name that sticks. As of now, you can continue to refer to them as the corgi husky mix or the husks corgi mix, etc.
What does a Corgi Husky mix look like?
This is a small to medium sized dog that can weigh anywhere from 20 to 50pounds give or take. They come in many colors as it will totally depend on their parents to determine what color you can expect them to be.
The most common colors you can expect to find them in, include red, sable, fawn, or tan.
As I explained earlier, it will totally depend on the parents.
Next, we’ll go through a few health risks and then get to the all-important place you can find a corgi husky mix breeder.
Health risks associated with husky corgi mixes
To date, there has not been a lot of available information around this area but we can take a close look at some of the issues that have been made available.
As well as a few different health risks that have been commonly found in the genetics of the parents. The most common problem that you will find with this breed itself is back problems. Whilst this is very vague it can come n many different ways.
Either way, it will all fall under the same umbrella. This is due to their weight being a strain for them to carry at times, so it’s important to make sure that they get regular exercise and a healthy diet.
A problem that stems from the husky gene is hip dysplasia which has been found to affect the corgi mix too. This can cause your dog to find it hard to stand or sit up without experiencing excessive amounts of pain.
Again, it is usually caused by obesity which in most cases can be totally avoided with a healthy diet. Next up I’ll be going through where you can locate this breed if you feel that you are in need of a new family member.
How to locate a corgi husky mix breeder near you
The first thing you will need to know is whether you are looking for a breeder to adopt or to purchase a pup.
Whatever choice you have in mind will depend on the route that you take to find a breeder. Whenever you are looking for a breeder it is highly recommended that you first check the reputable sites to see the current prices and local breeders for this dog.
So, that means that if you are looking for a breeder that is local to you. Well, you should be going to the official AKC website. The site will inform you on where to get this breed locally and who to get it from. If however you find that you are looking to adopt a dog then I suggest that you go and check out the following:
These are the main to places that I recommend you start. And they will be willing to help you locate a breeder that can service your need if they cannot do so themselves. But you may find that you become stuck with not being able to find a reputable breeder with this dog. So in the following section, I have a guideline of what approach you should be taking for when using a private breeder.
How to make sure the breeder is legit
In most cases, I recommend that you stay away from a private breeder but if you find it’s your only choice, then there are a few steps to take. Any corgi husky mix breeder that is public or private should always have a certificate for registration. This means that if you ask for it, they should be able to show it to you with no problems at all.
Paperwork you need to see when buying this dog
There are certificates that go along with your pup that include a health certificate specifically to represent that they have had all their jabs with a professional vet.
This is super important, and I suggest that you do NOT skip over this step. Do not let a breeder twist your arm into taking a dog when they have not correctly vaccinated your new pup first!
You could be opening a whole can of worms that could later bite you in the butt, BIG TIME! Heres a link to a checklist to go through that covers everything for buying a dog form a private or public breeder.
What questions do I need to ask the breeder?
To save you the hassle of going up and down the net to find some answers, I have found a recommended resource that you can use. I suggest that you print it out and keep using it as a guideline to help you when dealing with a breeder.
The resource has been provided form the AKC (American kennel club) official website and should be not used or altered for professional purposes. It’s a great checklist that you can save as a PDF or print and refer back whenever you need to: Questions To Ask Your Potential Breeder
It can be a very difficult process in finding a dog like this. But I suggest that you consider going to the official AKC website of where you will be able to locate a corgi husky mix breeder near to you with a dog that fits your needs. Always make sure to do your research beforehand as it could save you a lot of heartache in the future.
